Holistic healing generally starts with self-awareness and self-acceptance. Fear or denial, hiding behind faked well-being is a poor foundation for progress. My art is at its best when there is a sense of personal issue or pursuit of the gestalt. It’s a continuous exploration, another layer always awaits.
In Gestaltist Jorge Rosner’s book ‘Peeling the Onion’ he describes our endless ability to hide behind layers of the Constructed Self: clichés and small talk, professions and roles, and the phobic layer of fear. We must have the courage to Deconstruct, to identify and address real emotion and deeply hidden impasse. Kahlil Gibran, in his book The Madman speaks to rejecting and shedding the superficial, outer, social masks and embracing the true inner self.
The subject sheds one mask or layer. He or She has yet to realize that there is still another underneath.
